You will be in Charleston during the peak blooming season. You might be interested in the ';Festival of Houses and Gardens';. Check it out at -

Help with planning a perfect charleston /savannah vacation

Check out the posting from this spring What I Did on My Spring Break. It is from someone else from Southern California and is very good with a lot of things covered. You will have a great time!

There isnt going to be much to do if your planning on staying two weeks in Chaleston/Savannha on 3500 dollars. A five star room like you want would eat that up in no time.

A budget tip: Rentals at the beaches are a BARGAIN in March. You might even luck into some good beach weather.

For the Charleston area, check cottages and condos at Kiawah, Seabrook, Folly Beach, Isle of Palms, and Sullivans Island. You can save money by eating some meals at home, and plenty left over to park and dine in Charleston.

Avoid Atlanta.

Sorry! I hit the button too quick. My husband and I were just in Atlanta last week on vacation. We went there on our 1 week trip to the south. Atlanta was our first stop. We went to Six Flags there, but had some time to kill the first day, so we drove downtown Atlanta. We were there on a Saturday night. The guidebooks all said to go to a place called Underground Atlanta. It was, notice I said ';was'; where all the fabulous restaurants and shops were during the %26#39;96 Olympics. Granted, it was a great place, at one time. It was a little city built underneath the city complete with storefronts and cobblestone streets. But, there was nothing left to do there. We were starving so we walked all our Atlanta looking for a nice restaurant to eat at. Nothing at all was open. That city rolls up its carpet at 5pm!! We were willing to settle after 2 hours for McDonalds, there were closed too. At 7pm at night!! Atlanta was pretty during the day. Braves stadium, Margaret Mitchell House, Olympic Park, but there are so much prettier cities in the South. Charleston, Savannah, etc. Hope this helps!!! Have a great trip! I know we will never forget ours!

I live just south of Atlanta and go to the city quite often. We have a lot of wonderful restaurants, and things to do. I%26#39;ve never encountered the city asleep by 7:00. Check out the Fox Theatre Website www.foxtheatre.org and see if they have anything running during your vacation time. If so it is definitely worth the trip, the theatre alone is beautiful and worth exploring. If you do decide to come see us, check out atlanta.citysearch.com for a list of restaurants near the Fox. They will list several within walking distance - you won%26#39;t have to pay for more parking. You can get some really good rates through Priceline for some really nice hotels in Buckhead. I lived in Charleston for 10 years and miss is a lot. Go back whenever I get the chance. There is a city just outside of Charleston called Summerville - nickname Flowertown in the Pines. They have an annual Flowertown Festival. You can check www.summervilleymca.org/flowertown for the specific dates. If the festival isn%26#39;t going on the town is still worth the drive, just go west on I-26 to exit 199A and you are on main street. The downtown ';green'; has some pleasant shops and great restaurants..if you like Greek go to The Continental Corner and Gilligan%26#39;s has some great seafood, if you like BBQ, try Sticky Fingers. You can%26#39;t go wrong with any of those. The Woodlands has some top notch $$$ rooms as well as quite a few nice B%26amp;B%26#39;s as well. Hope you have a great time in both Charleston and Atlanta if you come to see us...We also have the new Georgia Aquarium (haven%26#39;t been myself yet,but I hear it%26#39;s wonderful)..

I am a native Savannahian turned Charlestonian so I hope I can help you! There is so much to do and see in both places.

Lodging-

Charleston- your best bet would probably be to rent a beach house. I am partial to the laid back feel of Sullivan%26#39;s Island, however, Isle of Palms is nice too. You can get great rates in the spring. Here is a link to one of the local providers.

Savannah- Inn or B%26amp; B would be the way to go. Here is one that I really like ( with great rates) but there are tons to choose from.

Things to do:

Charleston-

First, try this site vacationsmadeeasy.com/CharlestonSC/鈥ndex.cfm

Walk the bridge. It%26#39;s free and it is great exercise.

Downtown- carriage tour/stroll the market. Also on Friday%26#39;s The Citadel has a free public dress parade that is nice to watch.

Islands- explore the forts! Lots of fun and very reasonably priced. Rent a bicycle or a kayak. Great way to explore the islands

Savannah- Activities are pretty limited to the downtown area. However, if you are a history buff, Fort Pulaski is not to be missed.

Cumberland Island is a 2 hour drive and a WONDERFUL day trip. However you must arrive early or you will miss the ferry.

It seems that you will be in Sav. in time for St Patricks day. This is the biggest celebration of the year and is sort of Mardi Gra esque. Its is a ton of fun but is not for everyone. Book your room now (and dont be surprised if the rates are sky high). A good resource for activities in the Savannah area is the local CVB.

If you want more specific information regarding anything above, let me know! Hope you enjoy your trip!

I live in Charleston and also love Savannah. A great side trip from Chs is to go to Brookgreen Gardens north of Georgetown (about a 2 hr drive). The plantings are beautiful and filled with sculptures. Besides the gardens, there are other activites from wildlife viewing, boat rides, a restaurant, and shop. Beaufort, SC, is a delightful small version of Chs/Sav and between the two. Great walking town with many restaurants and beautiful homes. The Donnelley Wildlife Preserve 30 miles south of Chs is free and has hiking trails and all sorts of wildlife.
