Hilton Head Dining

We got to HH every year but are always looking for new restaurants to try. We like good food, but with two young children we can%26#39;t go anywhere that is too elegant/romantic. Any recommendations?

Hilton Head Dining

Don%26#39;t know where you%26#39;ve been but here%26#39;s where we went this year for dining and we have 2 kids (4 and 7)....Just Pasta in Coligny, Aunt Chilada%26#39;s, Scott%26#39;s Fish Market, Truffles (though they%26#39;ve cut their kids menu to like ONE item, I hope they change it back), Calibogue Cafe (i think that%26#39;s the name of it, it%26#39;s near Truffles in the Sea Pines Center), Steamers, Guiseppi%26#39;s for pizza, Captain Woody%26#39;s.

for unpretentious mexican try Mi Terria in Fairfield Square, or Fiesta Fresh, in fountain Center on New Orleans Road in the south or Port Royal Plaza north.

Seafood Boathouse, or Hudsons, both on Squire Pope Road. Also The Crazy Crab, the North End restaurant is better and has great views.

On the South the Sea Shack is great, but consider takeout from there.

For Chinese or Sushi - Yummy House

For Japanese Steakhouse - Kobe in Port Royale Plaza or Kurama on Palmetto Bay Road.

Sports Bars - Hincheys, Reilleys both north and south, jump and Phils.

Pizza - Bella Italia in Port Royale Plaza, or NY Pizza on the south.

Italian - Carrabas

BBQ - Smokehouse or Sticky Fingers

None of these are very expensive and cater to families.

Smokehouse %26amp; Crazy Crab North are two of our favorites and Boathouse is on our list to try this year. New restaurants (well, new to us) we are also considering include:

Catch 22

Steamers

Michael Anthony%26#39;s (would this be okay for kids for a special last night of the trip dinner?)

Frankie Bones

Spartina%26#39;s

If you have any thoughts on these, please let me know!!!

Thanks!

Lisa in Cincinnati

Michael Anthony%26#39;s is one of the best restaurants on the island. but I%26#39;m not sure how great it would be with the kids.

Spartina recently changed it;s style to native southern.

The others are a good fit.

Avoid Frankie Bones. It is quite ordinary.

I think you will find a lot of younger children at nicer restaurants in HHI. The casual food restaurants match the price but not the quality of the slightly more upscale variety.

As far as casual spots, I would look at Marley%26#39;s and Truffles.

Sante Fe Cafe is a great upscale mexican that is pretty unique.

Catch 22 is good seafood. You might also consider Alligator Grille and Two Eleven Bistro for casual upscale.

You will find a lot of restaurants offer kids menu even at nicer places.

Good luck.

we recently went to Michael Anthony%26#39;s for an Anniversary dinner with 2 small children ages 7 %26amp; 5. TThey were very accomodating and we made earlier reservations. The kids got what they wanted(plain pasta with butter- of course) and they were happy. It is a little pricier fpr a family meal- more of a nice place for a dinner for 2. There were several families there that night.

I dont know if you have tried it or not but for a burger and fries you would have to go a long way to beat Harold%26#39;s Diner on the Parkway. Its not a fancy place but his food more than makes up for it.

Not sure if you ever venture out to Bluffton but Peppers Porch is good.

Great Breakfast at Stacks
