I%26#39;ll be bringing my 6 year old to Charleston to visit cousins
and would like some recommendations about where to stay and what the weather is like for swimming. We%26#39;re coming from Boston
so water temperature that%26#39;s above 50 degrees is considered warm to us.
thanks! christin
kid friendly places to stay for swimming in October
The ocean water will be warm enough for swimming throughout the month. The air temps can vary .. generally based on whether or not the sun is shining!
Are you planning to stay at one of the beaches? or would you rather stay in town and take a day trip to the beach?

Like the other posted stated not sure where you are interested in staying :)
If you are coming in the later part of October the ocean temps and air temps might be questionable for swimming at the beaches... at least for my taste :) Should not be too cold though and the water should be well above 50 degrees.
Several hotels in downtown Charleston have pools. Kind of depends on your budget and travel needs.
If you are interested in staying in the historical downtown the Charleston Place Hotel has an indoor/outdoor pool, if I remember correctly, and is in the heart of downtown. The Holiday Inn in the historic district (HD) has a small outdoor pool and is a good value. The Hampton Inn (HD) also has a pool, is on the outer part of downtown, and located next to the visitor center. The Renaissance Charleston Hotel and the Mill House both have outdoor pools and I have heard positive things about both and closer to the heart of downtown.
Enjoy your trip!
King Charles Inn also has an outdoor, heated, pool.

As for swimming, you will find the air and the water much warmer than in Boston (where I lived and met my husband). Whether or not you want to swim will depend on whatever Mother Nature chooses to send us this year.
In 2005, we were comfortably swimming in the ocean until the week before Thanksgiving. However, 2006 was a bit cooler, and we stopped swimming in the ocean before Halloween. If you have a place with a heated pool, swimming will be fine!
