Edisto Beach - August camping or rental a small cottage

Trip date: August 12 - 19, 2007 - I have been on the Edisto Beach campground website and camping spots are not available on the beach side (reserved), some availabe inland, Is it to hot and buggy to camp inland? I don%26#39;t want to stay in a condo. I would prefer a detached cottage, something comfortable and local for 5-7 days. I have searced online for rentals, but have not found what I%26#39;m looking for. This trip is starting on August 12 and I am looking for an off peak rate. There will be two people in this party. Very mature.

Also, to everyone who reponsed to my earier message for Charleston off the road recommendations between Charleston and Edisto Beach, I thank you and will definitely try some of the local seafood houses.

Send me suggestions........Midnightingeorgia.

I would not recommend tent camping inland. It will be very hot, humid, and buggy (mosquitoes can be fierce down there). Even the camping spots at the beach part of the park can be hot as the actual camping spots are behind the dunes and do not get the full effect of the sea breeze. The majority of folks who camp at Edisto in the summer use trailers or RVs.

The week you are going is generally considered to be the last week of the ';high'; season. You are going to have problems finding an off peak rate for next week. There aren%26#39;t too many small detached cottages at Edisto (most noncondo rentals are 4-5 bedroom houses) but a few of the homes do have separate lower level apartments that are good for only two folks. There is also a section of Wyndam Ocean Ridge that has one room efficiency lodges (most at around 350 sq feet) that might meet your needs. I recommend calling the real estate agencies (Edisto Realty, Atwood, and Lyons are the big three for rentals there) and talking personally to them. They can best tell you what they have available meeting your requirements. Who knows, maybe you can negotiate a lower rate over the phone.

As you no doubt know, the SC and GA coastal area is experiencing dangerous heat and humidity. In these conditions, you should not expect comfortable camping even at night. Also, there will be mosquitoes. Rent a place with AC for this trip; come back for camping in October!

I agree with Kiawahvilla. It would be very hot, humid, and buggy...not rightly sure if buggy is a word in that sense...but it ought be if it isn%26#39;t.
