sc with little kids interest?

Hi. I%26#39;m visiting South Carolina in the spring with a 5 year old and a 2 1/2 year old (both boys).

Any suggestions for keeping them entertained? I received the state%26#39;s visitor%26#39;s guide but didn%26#39;t feel it was that helpful.

We%26#39;re hitting every state as a family and this is the year of the Carolinas...I know the trip is months away but I%26#39;m a pscyho planner!

I have visited parts of SC as a teen but am looking to do the whole state...in essence, to see what makes each state great. We have plans to see Fort Sumter and Charleston for history. While I love history, I can%26#39;t drag them to landmark after landmark...I did that in Italy recently and we were all drained by the end.

We plan on visiting the mountains and maybe visit the Gullah museum. Any suggestions you have would be great. As long as it hits culture, history, etc. or even a great amusement stop would be cool.

Hello elawson!

There are plenty of family friendly things to do in the Charleston area and would be a wonderful location to visit :) Everything from horse carriage rides and visiting the aquarium.

I strongly recommend checking out the Charleston page and posting a question there. The local experts that frequent the board are wonderful and check the board often.... more so than the general SC board. Tons of other travelers post often too, so the information is up to date.

I believe recently a TA member with young children wrote up a detailed trip report which you might find helpful. I also suggest doing a Charleston board search because it can be a wealth of knowledge and can help you tailor your questions.

If you are planning on staying in Charleston for a week or more try looking into renting a home/condo at one of the nearby beaches. You usually get more bang for your buck, in my opinion. It also allows your family more flexibility and typically more amendities such as a kitchen, washer/dryer, an awesome view, and space. The kids will have more room to play and have their own space. With a little searching... most homes come with all the comforts of your own home and possibly more.

With that said everyone should stay downtown at least once. If budget isnt too much of a concern then stay downtown.

Good luck with your trip planning!
