Help with Budget Stay

My girlfriend and I are planning a weekend beach vacation to Hilton Head. I%26#39;ve looked all over the internet for hotel options. Unfortunately, price is biggest factor for us, we ideally would like to spend ~%26lt;$100 per night. From the reviews, the options that I found on the island (Metropolitan, Beachwalk) seem to have cleanliness issues .

1. Does anybody have any suggestion for on the island hotels that%26#39;s within our price range (~%26lt;$100/night) and somewhat ';ok'; cleanliness (no roaches/musty smells)?

2. Our other option was to consider getting a hotel room not on the island, maybe in Savannah? Is that the closest city we can stay in?

Thank you.

Please tell us the dates you are going, as the prices vary greatly depending on the season. Have you tried Priceline or Hotwire? Many people on this board have had great luck with both, many getting oceanfront resorts for less than 100. If you like to gamble a bit, check ebay and skyauction within 2 weeks of your arrival, as they have last minute deals for hotel rooms, timeshares, and condos. Savannah is an option, but I would look into Bluffton - there are a few newer hotels there and would be about 10 - 20 min to HHI.

I would second Hotwire. I went to Hilton Head a few weeks ago and booked the Westin through Hotwire for $94 a night. Try ww.betterbidding.com for help on which hotel you are getting.

Thanks you roblef,

we%26#39;re planning on going the weekend of August 17th (Fri) and leaving the following Monday August 20th. I%26#39;ll give hotwire and priceline a shot!

littleone3, it%26#39;s amazing you got a Westin for $94!!! Hopefully I get just as lucky!

Here%26#39;s my update,

We%26#39;ve been looking at hotwire and trying priceline everyday but we cannot get a beach front resort (Hilton or Crowne) during 8/17 (Fri) to 8/20 (Mon) for %26lt;$110/nt average (and as students, we actually can%26#39;t afford that for 3 nights).

So I%26#39;m thinking of continue trying hotwire or priceline until the day before we leave and if I still can%26#39;t get it, then go with the Comfort Inn/Days Inn/Park Lane or Red Roof Inn and drive to the beach.

Any ideas on my hotel ';strategy'; or opinions on the order of the hotel preference I should go with?

Thank you!

I don%26#39;t know if this will help or not, but if you%26#39;re really looking to save money there are a few reasonably clean hotels in Hardeeville right off I95. Look for coupon books at the rest stops on the way down.

I do have a question though. How do you know what hotel you%26#39;re getting with Hotwire?

Best luck,

John

got2beme,

Thanks for your suggestion for Hardeeville, we really would like to be on the island, my girlfriend really really wants to be as close to the beach as possible, that%26#39;s the only reason we%26#39;re driving from Nashville to Hilton Head!

As for how I come up with a guess of what hotel we%26#39;re getting with hotwire, I read somewhere (I think in betterbidding.com) to go to the vacation packages section on hotwire, key in the exact same dates and location, and then compare the number of stars and the features of the hotel (for eg, supposedly the kitchenette is a key feature of the Hilton Hotel). Hope that helps.

Thanks and best wishes with your search for a beach hotel that%26#39;s in your budget. Let us know how you make out when a final decision is made.

John

Have you looked at the Park Lane Hotel %26amp; Suites? There are some mixed reviews on it, but they have been working on updating it. It is on the island close to Shipyard %26amp; Palmetto Dunes. They have the kitchen areas %26amp; some have the bedroom upstairs from the living area.

I just checked this sight and found the Red Roof Inn for an avg of $76/per night for the nights you are interested.

Thank you all for your responses,

I actually split up my hotel purchase to Saturday and Sunday night, and Friday night (most expensive).

I got the Crowne Plaza Resort for Saturday and Sunday night for $101/nt on priceline. And since we%26#39;ll be arriving late Friday night, I figured we can go cheap for that night%26#39;s stay, so I%26#39;m still pricelining for a cheap hotel.

Now that our trip is coming together, I have a few more questions that I hope somebody can help answer:

(1) I understand that Crowne Plaza is at Shipyard Plantations area, does that put us further away from the restaurants? Does anyone know of the distance from Crowne Plaza Resort to Coligny Plaza is in biking distance? (or does it take a tour de france to get there...).

(2) I looked up renting bicylcles on this forum and there%26#39;s a website for Patriot bicycles ($12/day), I probably only intend to ride around for one day. Does anyone know of a good bike rental place that%26#39;s reliable and not too expensive?

(3) I%26#39;m intending to go to Coligny Plaza (maybe bike there) on Saturday and maybe some mini-golf. Is there a mini-golf near Coligny or near the Crowne Plaza?

(4) One more question: Food.

We are huge seafood lovers, reading around, I think I%26#39;ll try The Sea Shack on Saturday night and the Crazy Crab on Sunday night, sounds like they both have inexpensive fresh seafood.

Any recommendations for breakfast/ Sunday brunch locations?

Thank you all so much!
