Hi
We are staying within the historic district and would like to take a trip along Blue Ridge Parkway.
Can anyone recommend some directions and a possible route?
Thanks in advance
Ben
Blue Ridge Parkway
From Charleston you will drive about 4 hours up I-26 -Blue Ridge Parkway is in North Carolina. It would not really be something you could do in a day. Its a beautiful drive and I highly recommend it.
Blue Ridge Parkway
Hi hart1
Thanks for your post, however, you know what, following your comments, I may have posted this is the wrong forum.
We are also visiting Asheville NC for 7 nights, would that be a more appropriate forum?
My apologies if I have confused you.
Ben
No problem, but from Asheville I would take the route that takes you to Mt Mitchell, tallest point on the Pkwy. You don%26#39;t have that many choices, you can go north/east or south/west, I am not sure how they list the direction for the parkway. But from Asheville you would head east/north to Mt. Mitchell.
OK hart1 thanks for the info.
Ben
The other poster is correct it will take you roughly 4-5 hours via I-26 to get to Asheville from Charleston, depending on traffic and if you stop for lunch. You can try posting in the Asheville NC forum... the local experts might have another route or other suggestions.
Your choice of travel is limited (although you can go through Greenville SC but that will not make the trip shorter). The bulk of the trip will be on I-26... not much on that highway but pine trees until you hit Columbia. After Columbia it is a fairly boring drive. I would try contacting your hotel for directions and use those as a comparison against a map search program like Google Maps or Map Quest. Not to mention the hotel might know of road construction going on.
Just another suggestion...
If you are looking for an additional spot to visit while in NC... try Blowing Rock NC and surrounding area... it is worth a drive. Lots of little towns along the way depending on the route. You can take the Blue Ridge Parkway to Blowing Rock. Be advised if you go during ';peak leaf season'; the parkway can be backed up. The parkway can be a long and winding drive... scenic but LONG. Might be too much driving for one day if you want to explore several towns.
Hope you enjoy your trip to the States!
Hi dressage04
Thanks for the information and the tip on Blowing Rock, we wil look forward to that, I will ask the hotel re directions as they will have local knoweledge compared to me here in the UK.
Much appreciated
