Details - 2 kids, 2 adults on a two night visit on our way down to Florida. Aug 7-9
Got a rate of $134 oceanfront with AAA over the phone from the resort itself. 1-800 Best Western number told me they didn%26#39;t have any rooms available and one of the hotel.com kind of websites had an oceanview room for $108. thought I was getting a deal since the condos I was looking at were similar in price before the extra sheet and condo fees. Should have gone for $108 - all rooms are oceanfront???
I was told that it was a one bedroom but it really was a one room (might have just been miscommunication) efficiency. Plenty big enough for a short stay but would have been cramped for a week.
Two queen beds plus a pull out couch, good size bathroom, table and two chairs, big frig, oven, stove, micro and sink, silverware and plates.
Check in at 3 pm was extremely quick - two buildings available, 10 story tower (pool, hot tub and lazy river, and tiki bar) and 4 (?) story smaller building where the lobby and continental breakfast is served. Buildings are side by side so no problem getting from one to the other.
Room was exceptionally clean. We were down on the sand in under 30mins from arrival.
Positives - great location, beach not very crowded, very clean. Within walking distance of parasailing and banana boat rides. Can also rent chairs and umbrellas from next door resort.
oved the tiki bar ($3.00 Bahama Mama, margaritas on the rocks, $6.00 frozen daiquiries)
Got an extension on checkout by 1 hr which let us spend time at the beach before we left. be sure to have them extend the time on your key card though - we were automatically locked out at 11 am.
Music by the pool on Weds (rained out for us :(
Wireless was ok - not speedy but not slow either.
We lucked out and got parking under the tower all but one time. Only about 6 spots there but more parking is available across the street.
Pool was extremely clean. Saw workers cleaning in the am and evening.
Continental breakfast (6:30 - 9:30) was good - employees worked hard to keep it constantly stocked. Don%26#39;t wait until 9 am to go though or you%26#39;ll wait in line. Some seating inside, more outside. Take your plates from your room - paper plates available are tiny.
donuts, danish, waffles, oranges, melon, raisin toast, english muffins, bread, hard boiled eggs, and cereal.
also have coffee and donuts in the tower from 8 - 10 am (didn%26#39;t visit there)
Negatives - only one elevator for 63 rooms in the tower. very slow at breakfast, checkout and prime beach times. Apparently not working the day before we arrived. Sometimes the guests ended up going up before they went back down. Very hot while we were there and the hallways and elevator are not air conditioned.
Would stay there again. Everyone was very friendly. Saw lots of families, couples too. Would definitely request a lower floor but we did have a great view from the balcony.
Best Western Ocean Sands reviewGlad you had a good stay there. We LOVE the BW Ocean Sands, and had a marvelous vacation there in July.
One of the things I really like about this Hotel is the friendly staff. We had a wonderful experience, and everyone seemed to go out of their way to make our stay perfect.
We met our housekeeper (Zelda) on the first day and told her that we would be on the beach by 9am each day , so she could clean our room early. Not only did she clean our room before 11am each day, but she also gave us some beach chairs and a boogie board that other guests had left behind when they checked out.
The head of maintance is married the the lady who is in charge of the grounds. They both do a wonderful job. Everything is clean and beautiful, and the pool area is exceptional.
The only real complaint anyone has is about the slow elevator in the tower. For the past two years, we%26#39;ve stayed on the 5th floor, and only used the elevator to take our luggage to our room on the first day, and to take it back to the car on the last day. By being on the 5th floor, we%26#39;re high enough to have an incredible view of the ocean, but also low enough to be able to take the stairs up and down for each trip.
Thanks to pop2748 (Tripadvisor user), we discovered many new restaurants close to the BW Ocean Sands this year. We%26#39;ve already made our reservations for July, 2008, and I can%26#39;t wait to get back!
