Questions about Daufuskie

We are coming to Daufuskie in 3 weeks or so for the first time! We are so excited. Coming will be my husband and I, our 7 month old baby, and my parents. We rented an oceanfront cottage through VRBO.com which is essentially through a company that you have mentioned before, but I forgot the name! The lady%26#39;s name is Lynn. Anyways, the following are my questions:

1. Does the ferry really restrict how much luggage you take on? I mean with a baby, we will have extra stuff plus a stroller. Not to mention groceries, etc...

2. Speaking of groceries, where is the best place closest to the ferry to buy groceries?

3. Lynn said there will be a golf cart at our house. I have read some reviews where people said that they couldn%26#39;t take the golf cart to explore the island, they had to stay in the ';resort';. Will this still be the case?

4. If we decide to go back to Hilton Head one day for dinner or for just a day trip, do you pay the ferry fee again? How much is the ferry fee?

5. Where does the ferry dock in Savannah? Is it close enough to stuff that we could walk to everything if we took a day trip there? And is that ferry charge different than the first ferry charge?

6.is there a place to buy fresh seafood either on the island or in Hilton Head?

7. If we take coolers to put our groceries in, do we carry them on the ferry ourself, or do they go with our luggage?

8. Are the pools heated? I think we are closest to the beach club pool.

9. We are going Sept. 8th - 15th. Is that considered off season? Or will most things still be open?

Thanks so much!!!!

Questions about Daufuskie

1)No...not really. Just tip your baggage guys at the embarkation and you will be just fine.

2)If entering HHI then i would stop somwhere before the bridge...there are planty of options. You wont have issue.

3)You must be renting through Lynn Roberts of Island accom....you can take your cart anywhere you would like...pelase explore.

4)There is a water taxi...it will take you right from freeport marina (where the ferry drops you off) right into H. Town. The gentlemans name is Richard...his number is 843 247-1107. It is cheaper than the ferry fee plus its a 5 minute ride vs a 35 minute ferry ride. The ferry fee is around $25...

5)it docks on river street in downtown...yes it is walkable. the ferry charge is more money...but i believe richard would take you there as well...ask him when you call. we went through savannah last time and actually was not charged at all...most who go through savannah are residents of the island so they get to ride for free...i guess they assumed we were as well.

6)i would find a place on HHI before you ferry over...there are no ';markets'; on daufuskie...

7)you can do either...let them drop them everything off to you (about 1 hr after arrival) or you can take all/selected things with you onto the bus. I would let them do the bulk of things...but taking a cooler with you is most certainly doable and easy.

8)Yes they are heated..very nice and very much your own.

9)I think it is a pretty busy time...not overly though. Things should all be open. If you get the chance go to Marshside Mama%26#39;s for dinner...t shirt and flip-flops is all you need there...but the food is great...calll ahead at least a few days for reservations. Though i know they do close for their offseason...just not sure when that is.

You should love Daufuskie...anything you forgot is pretty much at the general store...if they don%26#39;t. have it..the store workers will bring most things to you the next day if you request...they brought us our size 5 pampers cruisers diapers as they did not have any that big there...of course i would certainly reward them if it happens..

Just remember there is no Meijer down the street...it%26#39;s all about leaving your worries behind on HHI...just relax...enjoy the beauty and be prepared to fall in love...I guarantee you%26#39;ll wind up in the real estate office there asking questions....you will love driving around on the golf carts...especially your 7 month old...

Any more questions...just ask...be happy to help...
