Neighbourhoods

Where to stay in a couple of weeks:

1. Oceanfront on a beach.

2. Condo rental.

3. Safe and clean area.

4. Walkable would be nice but will have a car.

I am not sure about ';The Strand'; ';off The Strand';, etc and neighbourhoods while looking at different condo rentals. Any suggestions? We are a couple in our 40s and really want a nice beach, sand for swimming, but don%26#39;t want to be too isolated. Neighbourhood names needed.

Neighbourhoods

The Grand Strand is aprox. 60 miles long dependimg on where you draw the lines.

From north to south you have Little River. Not known for the beach but more for boat marinas and golf coarses.

Then you have the city of North Myrtle Beach. It is a seperate city from Myrtle Beach. It%26#39;s made up of four beach sections. Cherry Grove, Ocean Drive, Cresent, and Windy Hill. There is a fifth section in the area that isn%26#39;t a part of NMB but there isn%26#39;t any development there.

Between NMB and MB is a section off of Kings Road and Shore Drive. Different people refer to it by different names. I think it%26#39;s considered Arcadian section. If I%26#39;m wrong somebody correct me.

Then you have the city of MB. The hub of the Grand Strand. Probably the busiest of all the areas along the Strand.

Below there are a few other beach communities. Surfside, Garden City, Murrells Inlet and Pawley%26#39;s Island.

NMB and the communities to the south would be your more quiet areas. The farther south the quieter.

The Arcadian and very north end of MB would have your more frills accomodations.( I%26#39;ll probably hear about that comment)

Attractions are spread out from one end of the Strand to the other. No matter where you stay you%26#39;ll be doing some driving during your trip. It%26#39;s not as bad as it sounds.

These are some rental examples from NMB.

Something to play with doing your search.

try www.oceanfrontvac.com, this company represents some very nice properties. I suggest you pick North Myrtle Beach or Surfside/Garden City. However, you can stay in Myrtle Beach-North end- say Dunes Village, very nice resort gets good reviews on here.

NOTHING is really close enough to call it ';walkable'; we are so spread out, you can walk to a few things. Say you stay at Ocean Drive Resort in North Myrtle Beach, you can walk to some restaurants, bars, beachwear shops. But you will definitely want to drive around.

My suggestion for walkable would be The Oceans. Cherry Grove section of NMB. Great for those two people getaways......

Large one bedroom condos. Heard they were 800 sqaure foot.. I never measured it but one we stayed in was more than enough for two for a week.

Not a lot of frills. Swimming pool is about it. No hot tubs or lazy rivers. Oceanfront.

Short two block walk to several places to eat, groceries, cold brew, ice cream, bike rentals, etc..............

Want to surprise the hubby with a quick 3 day getaway at the end of the month. Hurricane season is upon the area though. A little nervous.

REally, we want the most beautiful beaches and clean place to stay; we%26#39;ll even take a really nice hotel. WE don%26#39;t need a lot of ammenities/extras, but are focused on a little luxury without pretentiousness and a beautiful part of the beach.

We will have a car.

That sounds like a lot of different areas; didn%26#39;t realize that it was so large. Now I really need help.

Call Jenny at Ocean Front Vacation 800-247-5459 or check out webside www.oceanfrontvac.com. She represents some nice properties.

Pop, you did a great job of describing the different sections of the Grand Strand. All I can add is that we like the area around 70th N. Ocean Blvd, because there are condos there and it%26#39;s also very residential for about 3 blocks until you reach Kings Hwy. We%26#39;ve stayed in both Long Bay Resort and Carolina Winds. We are considering Monterey Bay now. Also, what was described on these boards as the ';cabana section'; of MB, around Ocean Forest, is a quiet area.

itryalot.......Scroll back a page or two. Should be a thread titled Best Western Ocean Sands. Gal stopped in town last week for couple of days on trip to Florida and enjoyed her stay there.

Seems to always get good reviews. Easier to find less than full week rental there than going through a realtor.

Not as much to walk to as some of the other lcations. Molly Darcey%26#39;s Pub close by. Short hop in car out to Barefoot Landing.

Quit scrolling.......I messed up.....Thread was over on North Myrtle Board.

IF you go to the right of where it says Myrtle Beach in the block that says search, type in the name of the hotel, restaurant, whatever and it will show you past threads.

Cherry Grove, Ocean Drive, Crescent Beach, Windy Hill are North Myrtle Beach areas and I think they would be a good area for you to look in.

Century 21 Thomas, Elliott Realty are located in North MB and very big property managers in that area.
