Help! First time to Hilton Head.

My husband and I are planning a trip to Hilton Head in April. We have a 9 month daughter, so we need something kid friendly, but not necessarily geared towards kids. We would like to stay somewhere newer, walking distance to the beach. We will have a car, but would like to be able to walk to restaurants and shopping, too. I have looked on line and thought the Marriott by Coligny Plaza may be nice, or maybe the South Beach Marina Inn. Thanks for your help!

The Marriott is at Palmetto Dunes not Coligny. There is a Marriott Timeshare ';Grande Ocean'; about 3/4 of a mile from Coligney on South Forest Beach Drive.

See if you can get a place at the SeaCrest resort. It%26#39;s oceanfront and across the street from Coligney. Less upscale but also in the area is ';The Breakers';.

Look up on sites like VRBO, or Cyberrentals for private rentals, or check with some of the commercial rental companies. Vascation Company has a good selection for both places, as has Beach Properties.

PS Stay away the week of April 11th unless you love golf. The big PGA tournament is in town, and we are very crowded.

Help! First time to Hilton Head.

Have been going to Hilton Head since mid 70%26#39;s. My parents live there now. Hands down the bast thing you can do is stay away from the Coligny area. It is known as a tourist trap. If you want a beautiful place to stay and be right on the beach...stay at the Island Club of Hilton Head on Folly Field Road. Has pools, kids pool, tennis courts, oceanfront rooms, walk to the Westin Resort in Port Royal, centrally located, guarded entry and golf galore nearby. It is also on the bike trail so you can get out and go. They have bike rentals as well onsite.

Good luck on your stay. This is just my opinion but if you want to see the true Hilton Head...stay away from the Coligny area.
