Golf

We will be staying at Grand Ocean and we%26#39;re trying to stay relatively close to that when we play golf. Palmetto Dunes offers a multi round golf package that averages out to $72 per round. Are there any other deals out there to be had after 9/1/06?? Thanks.

Golf

Marriott has golf tee times available to their guests at various courses in the area. Some like Old South are off the island, but others like Oyster Reef, and The Port Royal courses are nearby.

Check with your guest relations people when you arrive.

Otherwise also look at the Port Royal Package. I think it may be less than the PD Package. In addition to the Port Royal courses, It also includes Oyster Reef and Shipyard Courses.

The not so good news is that Septembe r- October is the prime golf season and prices are higher than other times during the year. Most of the courses do offer cheaper afternoon rates, and it is light until eight PM.

Pick up a copy of Links magaizine for other deals.

Finally call Last Minute Tee Times at 843-689-2262 after three each day for a great deal. You may not get to play ';HarborTown';, but you will get a price for some of the best courses in the area.

PS: If you are here over Labor Day weekend, come out and watch the celebrities play in our annual Celebrity charity tournament. There is no charge to view these guys and some girls make fools of themselves.

Golf

Recommend Oyster Reef and Shipyard. Excellent courses

Thanks for the info. The Port Royal package is a little less. Now, which of these packages in your opinion will provide the best golf experience?? Again, thanks.

How do the two packages differ in the gold experience? that is a hard question to answer. Each of them offer a number of courses which are entirely different, so playing several of them will give you a different experience each time.

My guess is that the PD package will give you an opportunity to play some challanging courses, that the Port Royal group won%26#39;t, so if you are a low handicapper, go for PD.

Here is a run down on PD and Palmetto Hall, which are probably included in the package.

1 - Jones Course - Not very difficult has some pretty holes, including an ocean hole.

2 - Fazio - Plays among condos and Homes - noted for the fairway traps on a number of Holes.

3 - Arthur Hills- Leamington (PD) - Very Difficult course - probably the most difficult on the island with the exception of the Long Cove Course.

4- Cupp Course (PH) - designed on a computer using popular computer game. Very distinctive course since no curves are found anywhere on the course. Mounds are triangles. Feels like your%26#39;e playing on another planet.

5 - Hills Course (PH) - another example of Arthur Hills style but not as difficult as the PD track.

Port Royal - Includes three courses on Port Royal plus Shipyard and Oyster Reef

1 - Planters Row - typical resort course. Has heavy play since it is used by the Westin Guests.

2 - Robbers Row - designed by Pete Dye and plays as a links course. 9-10-11 goes through area that was civil war town, 12 and 13, you see ruins of Fort Walker. 15th Hole very picaresque with tee back of an oyster pond.

17th hole is a green surronded by a sand trap.

3 - Barony - Very pretty course with several holes playing near port royal sound

One of these last two will not be available for play, since they are used as a private course for members changing monthly.

Shipyard - has 27 holes and you will play two of the nines. The course is noted for the many lagoon holes. Except in the winter, you can see turtles and Alligators sunning on the banks along with egrets and white herons. Deer and Armadillos may also be seen.

Oyster Reef is located in Hilton Head Plantation and is a Rees Jones design. This is a well maintained course and is noted for it%26#39;s sith hole which plays to a green located on Port Royal Sound. You will see many million dollar plus homes from hole five onward.

Thanks Stan. I could only have gotten this info from a local and your willingness to share that info is well appreciated.

Oyster Reef is substantially nicer than Shipyard. I was down there about a month ago and was little disappointed in Shipyard. Nice, but not that great. Oyster Reef was very nice. However we stayed in Shipyard Plantation and they had an afternoon special for 9 holes for $30 after 4:00 p.m. I think we paid around $77 for Oyster Reef but it was worth it.
