charleston weekend...need advice

traveling to charleston weekend of Sept 27-30 with husband and daughter and her boyfriend. We are 50%26#39;s and they are mid 20%26#39;s. Would really like suggestions of restaurants and sights to see. We dont like really fancy restaurants, but enjoy a good meal. We could use suggestions for all meals. Husband wants to see Fort Sumpter and daughter likes the gardens and mansions. Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Your first stop should be at the Visitor%26#39;s Center. Purchase your Passports there so you can take advantage of the discounts to some of the places you describe.

By all means, keep Dad happy - go to Ft. Sumter! It is a very enjoyable boat ride and you get to see Charleston from the water which is a great vantage point. He might also want to see Patriots Point or save it for another trip here.

For the downtown house museums, go to the Edmonston Alston House and the Nathaniel Russell House. For a plantation, go to Middleton Place and take a house tour.

Your daughter might also enjoy some of the private homes that will be on-tour (not usually open to the public) through the Preservation Society. Make reservations in advance and pick up your tickets the day of the tour at their shop on the corner of King and Queen Streets. Wear flat shoes that are good for walking and carry flashlights. Some of the streets are dark and some of the sidewalks are very old and uneven - not easily walked on.

There are so many great restaurants. SNOBS (Slightly North of Broad) is good and has lunch specials.

If you go to Middleton Place, have lunch in the restaurant. The food is VERY good, and the atmosphere is relaxing.

For lunch downtown, you have many options. The garden at 82 Queen is lovely, the food is excellent, and the location in the historic district is central to all the sights. For great, local inexpensive food, have lunch or breakfast at Joseph%26#39;s, on Meeting Street, just north of the corner of Queen St. If you like fried oysters, try the oyster po%26#39;boy sandwich.

For an excellent seafood dinner, go to Hank%26#39;s Seafood on Hayne Street, near the market. Make a reservation for a private table, or dine at the communal table. The atmosphere is bistro-like.

Lets see..my favorite Plantations were Boone Hall ( cuz its where many movies were filmed %26amp; very picturesque, and Magnolia cuz the gardens were beautiful, and u get to ride the tram around the huge property where there is alligators and such. (there is actually no fence to keep them in on certain places of the property so be alert if you go far in the back) My favorite place to stay is in the Mt Pleasant area so I really like Tbonz for their own microbrews, and I loved Queen Annes Revenge on Daniels Island...its has actual pirate artifacts and a good menu. Make sure to hit up the farmers market on Saturday mornings in the sqaure! Oh and check out the aqaurium web site for combo tickets, u can do the aqaurium, ft sumter, and Imax for discounted rate....or spiritline has a combo ft sumter/ carriage ride discount....have fun!
