HELP! 1st time to Myrtle - Dayon House Resort

Hi! FIRST TIME TO MB!!!! I%26#39;m traveling to MB next Wednesday (9/12) staying from 9/13 - 9/16..with my mother, aunt and 11 yr old cousin for a long weekend... It%26#39;s been a while since we%26#39;ve been to any beach, so we%26#39;re excited.. Booked at the Dayton House Resort which seems to be a pretty good place according to the reviews. Wondering if I could get some feedback on it and the weather for this time of year. Normally we go to the beach mid August but my mother doesn%26#39;t enjoy the super hot weather any longer. Checking the forecast it shows thunderstorms for next week :( I%26#39;m soooo nervous about this.

Please give feedback on Dayton House and attractions and restaurants nearby and also the weather!

Thanks!

- I will tell you that the weather will still be hot enough but not quite as humid.

-The location is almost perfect. You are near Broadway at the Beach with its tons of attractions and entertainment and dining and shopping. You are near several restaurants (Sea Captain%26#39;s House) that are nearby. www.broadwayatthebeach.com

-The beach there isn%26#39;t too crowded.

-We didn%26#39;t stay at the Dayton but we stopped by as we do most properties in MB and it was clean and decent. The furnishings seemed to be dated but it was clean. We went into the main building area so I don%26#39;t know which building you were going to.

-With MB you could have thunderstorms at 12 noon and at 1 pm it%26#39;s bright sunny and hot again. I don%26#39;t ever recall going there and it raining all day for days at a time except maybe when there is a hurricane in the Atlantic and headed in that direction. The locals on here can probably give you a better idea of the average in September.

Thanks for the insight! I really appreciate it. I feel much better now about the whole trip, and the thunderstorms knowing it will hopefully not ruin our whole trip.

LOCALS!!!! Let me know about the weather! And restaurants etc!

We%26#39;re not quite locals but we spend a couple weeks a year in Myrtle Beach so maybe I can give you some tips.

First of all, if you like eating breakfast out Myrtle is the town for you. There are literally dozens of Pancake Houses throughout town and they are just about all good places to eat. I recommend Harry%26#39;s Breakfast Pancakes or Spring House. Since all the pancake houses are good you may want to hit Harry%26#39;s because Harry is a character and if you get the chance to chat with him a little bit it%26#39;ll make your morning. Spring House is also nice because they keep canaries and parakeets in the restaurant (caged of course) to chirp away while you eat. Makes for a nice way to start the day.

For lunch you really can%26#39;t go wrong with River City Cafe. There are a number of them in town with great burgers and sandwiches. A very nice lunch stop. You may also want to check out Johnny Rockets at either of the outdoor shopping centers (Broadway at the Beach and Barefoot Landing) for an upbeat festive lunch.

Your lunch and dinner can also include any of a number of national chains. Fast Food places are plentiful and other chains such as Subway, Panera, Quiznos, Applebees, Longhorn Steakhouse and many more are well represented.

Your dinner choices are nearly endless. If you love seafood just point yourself in any direction and you%26#39;ll stumble across a great eatery. Angelo%26#39;s on the south side of town has great Italian food and steaks. If you feel like lounging in your room Ultimate California Pizza and Hungry Howies are both excellent pizza options and they will both deliver to your room.

You might tune your in-room TV to the Myrtle Beach Attractions channel for some more food ideas.

For attractions, if you can pull yourself away from the beach, you%26#39;ve got plenty of shopping at what amounts to five large shopping centers. There are two Tanger Outlet locations providing good deals on clothes and other items plus two %26#39;boardwalk%26#39; style outdoor shopping centers in Broadway at the Beach and Barefoot Landing. There is also a large mall on the bypass called Coastal Grande.

You%26#39;ll also find other attractions at Barefoot Landing including a large adventure park with reptiles including the largest crocodile you%26#39;ll ever see! This is a big hit with children it seems. You might also consider visiting Barefoot Landing after 5:00 to see the Tiger Preservation Trust booth. They allow you to get up close and personal with real tigers and have your photo taken petting a large tiger or even holding a cub! Quite a memory.

You might also consider visiting the Waccatee Zoo a couple miles inland from Myrtle. It%26#39;s a nice back-yard menagerie style zoo that tends to be a fun little change of pace.

You%26#39;ll also find dozens of large mini-golf locations which are a fun activity. Some of them are pretty elaborate and impressive!

My number one suggestion to you would be to hit the first Myrtle Beach Welcome Center you see on your way into town. They will have thousands of brochures and coupon books to find attractions and restaurants in town and save a bundle!

I stayed at Dayton House last fall. Location is great...lots of restaurants in walking distance. Just as the above poster said - room decor %26amp; furnishings are very dated but well maintained %26amp; clean. Pool areas are all clean %26amp; there is a great front lawn with lots of umbrella tables, etc.
