Santee or Givhans Ferry?

Has anyone ever been to either of them? We%26#39;re toying with the idea of stopping off for a night on the way to Savannah (just for a bit of variety!). I don%26#39;t suppose either of them are particularly glam, but are the views etc better from one than the other? (We%26#39;re going to Charleston on the way back up)

Thanks for any info

An alternate suggestion -

From your other posts, it appears that you will be traveling from Charlotte to Savannah. If you have the time, why not drive west from Charlotte toward Asheville and the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. Spend a night in some up-country scenery before continuing south to Savannah.

Santee or Givhans Ferry?

Its something we%26#39;ve given thought to. Being Brits, however, we regard driving to the corner store a long way!

I try and avoid driving much more than 3-4 hours in a day for the main reason that I am too tired to enjoy anything at the end of it I do more than that.

What distances are we talking about getting to the Great Smokey Mountains National Park? And how far from there to Savannah? And is there anywhere to stay there?

We do have a couple of days flexibility in our trip so its a possibility. As always there are more questions than answers!!

Thanks for the advice though, Kiawahvilla

You might want to post these questions on the North Carolina forums. Perhaps your friends in Charlotte can give you advice as well.

There are many bed and breakfasts, hotels, and resorts, etc., in the Asheville area. Friends of ours from the UK, who took a similar trip last year, chose to camp in the National Park.

In response to your original question ...

Although I have never visited the two state parks you mention, all of the SC State Parks are extremely nice.

On trips to Charleston, I frequently stop at a nice, reasonably priced hotel in Santee, The Best Western Santee, which is close to the lake and has a very pleasant atmosphere.

Santee is located on Lake Marion, a man-made lake created in the 1940%26#39;s when the Santee Cooper Project (hydroelectric and navigational project0 built a dam on the Santee River. The area around Santee is a low-key resort area - golf, recreational boating, fishing etc.
