My husband and I are planning a fall trip to Charleston and Savannah. Any lodging under $100? I don%26#39;t have to be in the historic district, but would like to be close. Also, can anyone tell me the BEST attractions? We will probably only be there for two days. I want to get in all I can. Thanks so much.
first trip to charleston!Go by the Visitors Center and they will have all kinds of discount coupons and brochures to help you. They offer a Passport Discount which is great if you are planning to see a lot of things here.
Plan to take a carriage ride. This can give you an over-view of what is here and where to go.
The Market is a fun place to shop.
There are wonderful house museums downtown. My favorites are the Nathaniel Russell House and the Edmonston Alston House.
If I had to choose just one plantation, I would definately go to Middleton Place and take the house tour.
There is a great post that was done by a visitor this spring called My Spring Break Report or something to that effect that was very good. You might want to review it before finalizing your plans.
Someone else might be able to help you with lodging...not my strongest area here.
first trip to charleston!I personally love the Mt. Pleasant area its right over the bridge from downtown. Didnt care much for North Charleston area. Carriage rides, see a plantation (Magnolia was my favorite for the swamp tours and gardens) but Boone and Middleton were both great. Harbor boat tours were great. And saturday is a great day to hit the farmers market and do some shopping in that area. Cool lil restaurant to check out is Queen Annes Revenge on Daniels Island (approx 5-8 min from downtown). This place has good food and great pirate artifacts. Hope you have fun!
Oh I forgot..not sure if its still going on but check Hampton Inn in Patriots point (mt Pleasant) the hotels run package deals for like 120 a night but that includes lodging and tickets to attractions, so in the long run you may save. The aquarium also offers ticket packages for a discount to the aquarium, ft sumter, and Imax. Hope this helps!
You could also try the Shem Creek Inn in Mt. Pleasant - we got a room there at Spring Break for only $99 per night - it was extremely nice, and you could sit out on your balcony and watch the shrimping boats come in - very romantic!! It only takes about 5 - 10 minutes to be in the historic district, depending on traffic - and you get to traverse that beautiful Arthur J. Ravenel bridge!
Make sure you do a carriage ride - we did Old South (our driver, A.J., made the trip!), and it was fantastic! We also did a ghost tour, which was great - those should be really fun in the fall!! We%26#39;ve also toured Ft. Sumter (which was just o.k.), but the Yorktown tour at Patriot%26#39;s Point was awesome - we spent a whole afternoon there. And, as always, make sure you do a walking tour (even just on your own), and tour the homes around the Battery and Rainbow Row - just beautiful! Have a great time!
