Ideas for December vacation with teens in South Carolina

Last winter we drove from Florida to Gatlinburg, TN. We%26#39;re looking to do something that is driving distance (14 hours or less) this winter too. Any suggestions for North Carolina?

Charleston is beautiful during Christmas. There are lots of historical activities- Ft. Sumter, The Hunley, etc. Great restaurants, museums.

Thanks Amy. I%26#39;m really having a hard time working this out because 2 of my kids love the beauty of nature on their vacations and the other loves the beauty of shopping! LOL!

If anyone has any ideas - -please jump in!

Charleston has excellent shopping - mainly rather higher-end boutiques, art galleries, antique shops, and jewelry stores; but there also is some neat bargain jewelry, etc., in the market.

Charleston is a tourist destination mainly for its history, architecture, gardens, and location (surrounded by water). Charleston does not have the kinds of entertainments and amusements that you find in Gatlinburg.

Teens (at least my teens) enjoy the creepy ghost tours (there are a number to choose from, since Charleston has plenty of ghosts) and dining in the wonderful restaurants. The Fort Sumter boat trip and tour is another safe bet. Also, you can tour the aircraft carrier at Patriots Point, and you can view the restoration of the civil war submarine, TheHunley, on the naval base in North Charleston.

Thanks for your help. I%26#39;m considering the possibility of splitting the trip into 2 locations for a total of 6 nights or so.

Your suggestions have really helped alot
