A day in Charleston on New Year's week

We will be in Hilton Head for the New Year but intend to drive to Charleston. What should we see during that day? Where should we eat?

A day in Charleston on New Year's week

First Night Celebration will be held downtown on New Years Eve. It is a family friendly celebration. I think you have to purchase tickets in advance but I cannot recall where they are sold. Someone else may remember...

During the day on New Years Day, many of the restaurants and most of the shops will be closed. Some will have limited menus and service.

Some of the museums and plantations will be open so check their websites.

For New Years Eve consider dining at Tristan, High Cotton, or the Peninsula Grille. All of them should have a special menu...most will be a fixed course menu that includes a champagne toast at midnight...book early for the 9%26#39;ish pm seating at these places.

Hi fellow Wisconsinite,

While staying in Surfside Beach SC this past June, my family and I drove to Charlston for a day. We totally enjoyed our day here. We crossed the really cool bridge and started out at the visitors center then onto Patriots Point to tour 4 World War 2 ships and saw some sea turtles and pelicans swimming in the harbor. We then went to the aquarium (was okay)and walked around in the very beautiful Historic District. It was kind of like being in New Orleans. We found an Irish Pub with really awesome food and atmosphere called Tommy Condens.(want to return) We then walked to the Waterfront Park which was beautiful. We watched the sailboats and the children running through the fountain. I don%26#39;t know what the weather is in Dec. so it may be a totally different experience than what we had but my husband and I want to go back someday for a romantic weekend getaway so we can do more sightseeing. Hope you have fun. Sandy(formerly from Madison, WI)
