What is there to do in Charleston on a Sunday morning? What time do the stores open? Are any of the attractions open? My husband is taking me to Charleston for a couple of days so we will only have Saturday and Sunday until about 4PM to enjoy this beautiful city and I want to make the most of it!
Sunday Morning
Most of the shops on Sunday do not open until noon or after and some are closed on Sundays. Vendors come to The Market. The plantations open at 9:00 and the house tours begin at 10 AM. Drayton Hall is opening at 8:30 and starting house tours at 9, but that may change. The museums and house museums downtown are closed on Sunday mornings and the hours for opening vary from 1:00 - 2:00, so check the hours before planning your day.
Sunday Morning
Walk the battery, enjoy coffee. Visit one of the historic churches. Even if you are not a church-goer you%26#39;ll be steeped in history ( the Old Hugenot Church...the Presbyterian Church where the greeters sometimes wear kilts...the 300 year old Episcopal churches....). Drive over to Isle of Palms and walk the beach, etc......
On our trip in March we arrived in Charleston on Sunday morning early (we were expecting to get in later in the day but the trip was faster than expected). The town was active when we arrived. I%26#39;d recommend brunch in town (Poogan%26#39;s was excellent but other restaurants offer as well) and then we walked the Battery and Waterfront parks. All the carriage and walking tours were going, so you could probably do one of those. By early afternoon there was shopping and we did a trip out to Boone Hall Plantation before checking into our hotel at 2pm. I think I also saw the Harbor Tours running as well.
There is plenty to do on a Sunday, just double check times with specific attractions that you want to see to be sure. Or plan your own walking tour! There are so many beautiful parks, buildings, churches and graveyards to explore that you will have plenty to do and see.
