Neat places to see within about 100 miles of Myrtle Beach???

I am traveling to Myrtle Beach the 1st week in Oct... I live in TN and like to travel down the backroads and discover little ';One Horse Towns'; or any place interesting that really isn%26#39;t a big tourist attraction. I will be staying there for a week so I want to get out and see all I can while I%26#39;m there. Anyone got any suggestions?

What exactly are you hoping to see and do? Or is it just one of those drive by/through type of things?

Try Bull Island Bull Island - access via:

5821 Highway 17 North (Sewee Visitor and Environmental Centre)

Awendaw, SC 29429

Tel: 843-928-3368

The island is a nearly untouched wilderness; the beach, strewn with bleached driftwood, is nicknamed Boneyard Beach. Go shelling along the beach or just walk around to see all the alligators, birds and the largest nesting population of loggerhead sea turtles outside of Florida. Bulls Bay and the creeks behind Bulls Island were reputed hideouts for pirates plundering ships along the coast. The remains of the Old Fort on Bulls Island are believed to have been a martello tower built in the early 1700%26#39;s. Bathrooms and picnic tables on site, but bring everything you need, food, water, sunscreen, etc.

From Awendaw and take the Bulls Island Ferry (over to Bulls Island, part of the Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge. The ferry to Bull Island operates March 1 to November 30: Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday: Launch at 9:00a and 12:30p - Leave Bull Island at 12:00n and 4:00p and Thursday: Launch at 9:00a - Leave Bull Island at 4:00p

I would just go to Charleston, or the surrounding towns and islands are all great.

LOL I forgot to mention my own lil town of Wilmington, NC...we have a great lil downtown area along the riverfront, and awesome beaches. We are 1 hr north on Hwy 17.

The historic area of Conway is lovely!
