Hi, I hate I-95 and I want to be able to drive from richmond virginia to myrtle beach . Someone has told me there is a way without using 95. Can someone give me directions? We are leaving on Tuesday and
morning and returning back home on Saturday.
Driving from richmond virginia to myrtle beachYou can but it will add a few hours to your trip. You can take 60 west out of Richmond to 29 south, or take 460 west out of Petersburg, both will take you to Lynchburg and 29 south. Once on 29 south you would travel to Greensboro, to take I85 and then 220 south. 220 south becomes route 1 after which you take a left onto 9 south, continuing to 38 south and then 501 south straight into Myrtle, or you can take the 22 exit at Aynor. Check Mapquest.com for more detailed directions of this route. I travel this way to and from Myrtle myself, but I am about 45 minutes south of Lynchburg, from richmond it will be around an 8 hour drive.
Driving from richmond virginia to myrtle beachIf you want scenic and an interesting much slower trip...I%26#39;d spend the day enjoying places like Elizabeth City, Edenton, New Bern and take 17 from Chesapeake. Grest old towns!
If you want a little faster but less than 95 traffic...do what the above poster said but get off I-85 in Durham and take I-40 to Hwy. 17...just follow the signs. You%26#39;ll get on 140 short of Wilmington. 40 is a little thick around Durham and Raleigh but south of Raleigh it is smooth sailing.

I did not read the above posters directions....get on 85 in Petersburg for the 2nd route i suggested.
The other option is to go 95 to Rt 40...take 40 to Wilmington then grab 17 into MB. breaks up the monotony of 95
Actually after Richmond the traffic isn%26#39;t that bad. Once you get through Petersburg and closer to Emporia and the NC line you really aren%26#39;t going to have much traffic especially when leaving out on a Tuesday it should be very clear.
Otherwise,
You could hop on over to 17 and take that all the way down.
Oh, you would pick up 17 from 33 (I believe that%26#39;s the route)
