Michigan to Hilton Head

Hi all:

My husband and I are traveling with our 3 sons (ages 2 - 8) to Hilton Head next week :) We are doing a night drive to the Island leaving Friday night. However, I am not sure when we will leave to go home. We must check out our timeshare by Sat 10am. However considering waking early Sat am (5am) and travelling north until the boys become too antsy. Has anyone made this

trip up to Michigan and if so where would you recommend staying overnight on the way home? Virgina?

Michigan to Hilton Head

I would think if you leave at 5:00 am, the boys will just fall back asleep in the car. It will probably take you 5-1/2 to 6 hrs. to get to Virginia, which would be just before lunch time. If it were me, I%26#39;d want to get at least half way home, if not more. No knowing where in Michigan you are going, I think somewhere in West Virginia would be a good place.

I don%26#39;t know if this is helpful or not, but we drive from Columbus, and generally stop for the night in Charlotte, NC on the way down, and Wytheville, VA on the way back. In both cases, that puts us about 2/3 of the way to our destination. I don%26#39;t know where you are in Michigan, but perhaps that will give you some idea.

I just came back from HHI to Toledo last weekend. We left HHI and drove to Lexington, Kentucky to spend the night. We arrived there about 10 hours after we left HHI stopping twice at rest stops and a third time for gas and fast food drive thru.

This left 4 1/2 hours on Sunday. Add in what you need to get to where in Michigan this should give you a good idea for your timeine.
