Charleston hotel and ghost tours

We are taking a cruise from Charleston, SC in November .

We plan to stay overnight the day before the cruise leaves and would like to take our two kids (11 %26amp;17) on a Ghost tour. (my son is a wanna-be paranormal investigator).

Any advice on a reasonably priced hotel, for a Friday night

near the tours/historic district

that would be good for a family of 4. Also we are driving our car to Charleston and plan to park at the pier. Any advice on parking, the ghost tours and hotels and anything else. Also, any restaurants in area with good food, not too fussy atmosphere.

Bulldog Tours does very creepy ghost tours which are well grounded in information about social history. I would recommend taking one of their outdoor walking tours of the streets and cemetaries.

Last week my daughter and I took Bulldog%26#39;s ';indoor'; tour of the old city jail. This building has been the subject of a number of investigations, and has been featured on the Travel Channel.

Our guide was excellent, and we were perfectly safe. Still, two teenage girls (with their mother) had to leave the tour because they were frightened. My adult daughter (an attorney) also found the tour, in the dark, abandoned prison, to be a bit much.

Your 17 year old might find the jail tour wonderful; but your 11 year old might be bothered by it. You don%26#39;t want your vacation spoiled by bad dreams!
